Making Progress

I thought you guys might be wondering what is going on with the adoption, so I wanted to do an update. We've been working hard on getting the necessary paperwork done. Busy, busy, busy! Although this isn't the first or even the second time we've been down this road, this is our 3rd adoption and WOW! Is there a difference!! Previously, while living in the states, things were much simpler!! A ton of paperwork, yes, but not all that complicated! Now that we live here in China, things are REALLY much more difficult and complicated! It's like pulling teeth to get what we need. Not impossible, just more work. Getting simple paperwork suddenly turns in a much bigger task! And the biggest problem is not knowing exactly how it all works in our situation here since we are so different than the normal adoption.

The home-study is nearing completion. Our social worker now has everything she needs to complete it and she tells us we will get, at least the first draft, by the first week of November. As soon as we receive the completed home-study, we will be able to apply for grants. Yeah!! Keep those in your prayers!

We have been working on one particular piece of paperwork for a long time now. It is our local, here in the village, security clearance. It is, no doubt, the first time they told us they've ever been requested to do something like this. There's been much feet dragging and I was beginning to think we'd never be able to get one and then what would we do?!! Finally, on Friday they gave very specific instructions on where to go to get it done. They will not be doing it, but are sending us to Beijing to get it done. Things just work so differently here than in the states. It's no surprise as it is something we commonly run into here. Anyway, it matters not to me as long as we get it done!! So we've filed that paperwork and expect it back at the end of next week. Yippee!!

We also have to have a security clearance from Missouri where we lived so many years. We are still working on how to get that since we aren't there. Hopefully this week we'll get more direction. You know, previously, we'd just go down there to the Hwy patrol and get fingerprinted, pay the fee, and come back and pick it up in a few days. Now that we don't live there, we're trying to figure out how it can be done. We, just last week, had a security clearance ran by a security agency showing no record, but was not acceptable due to the fact that it wasn't on the hwy patrol's letterhead. You guys know how picky things must be done for adoptions!! Anyway, we hope to have more direction and instructions sometime next week on how to go about it since we aren't there. This process is WAY more complicated than before when we actually lived in the states!! It was a piece of cake compared to living here and trying to get things done. We still do not know how it is all going to work out, but trust that it will!

Then there's the extra fees involved because we live out of the country!! If you thought that adoption was expensive already, it is more so when you live out of the country. We're beginning to find that out while doing some of these things. There are extra fees involved that we didn't realize (I"m NOT implying that our agency hasn't been upfront about all our fees. They have been. That is not the case at all. We are a special case and we are finding that extra fees are involved due to shipping and the extra costs involved in foreign documents) and perhaps the original total we mentioned may not be high enough. I guess time will tell though as we document everything we're spending on paper. Then there's people who mistakenly think that our costs will be much cheaper since we live here. Oh, how I WISH that were the case!! Some have said, "Well, hey, you don't have to pay for the airfare and stuff. That should save alot!" But...........while that seems to reason, it is not the case. In order to make the adoption final, we must bring her onto US soil and go through Immigration. Therefore, we DO need to make a trip to the states, and.........hey! we'd like to come back home again, here in China! So you see, we don't really save anything on airfare when you come to realize all that, huh?!

We're just taking this one day at a time!! Of course, as fast as possible though!! How come no one ever moves fast enough for us when we need some paperwork done?!! Patience, Patience, Patience we are learning!! And greater reliance on the One who began this work in us!!

We just recently made a new large payment to our agency for the next step in the process. Since we have been actively fund-raising and believing Him to provide, the money that was needed was there! Thanks to so many generous people! Praise God!! Now, we need to believe for additional as we have pretty much depleted our funds for that payment. We will soon, probably in the next week or two, be gathering some more documents that will require some fees. Then we need to file our I-800A as soon as we get our home-study in the next few weeks and that fee alone is nearly $700 or more if we don't meet the Nov something deadline before the fee goes up! Please be praying for God to provide what is needed, when it is needed, and from the source He chooses to use to provide. We don't know how, but we simply trust that HE WILL!!! Thank you guys for standing with us and following us through this incredible journey!

One More for For One Less--Results!

The Preliminary Count looks like we reached 97 pendants SOLD yesterday for The Rippee's!
That is incredible!!
THANK YOU! to everyone who did a little shopping, or a LOT of shopping or who lifted up this project all day long!
THANK YOU! to Sarah and her husband Chris at Sarah's Treasure Box. What a gift from the heart!
That's just shy of $500 that will be donated by them to The Rippee Adoption Fund!!! Please remember their generosity and do some of your future shopping at their site! I have a feeling that there will be many more cool pendants yet to be created. Check back often!

Yesterday afternoon Sarah emailed me, and I must admit that when I saw her etsy convo hit my mailbox my pr@yer was something more about hitting a certain numerical goal that I had in mind for that time of the day ...  however, when I read her email my heart was immediately softened like butter by reading something so much better. It brought tears a flowing!

From Sarah:
"OK....go grab your Puffs. This is a comment I just got with an order:

Thank you for helping the family with adoption. I am adopted and know what a great feeling it is to have a family:)"

Family ... oh, how sweet the word and thought! I can't imagine not having one.
The thought of a child ... not having one ... oh my.
In fact, I received several emails from people thanking me for reminding them about the fundraiser and how adoption had touched their family's life!

Thank you for sharing your family and your blessings with The Rippees. The birthdays presents and Christmas presents or presents to yourself that you shopped for are weaving your lives and family in with The Rippee's Family. And I cannot help but imagine how BEAUTIFUL this great tapestry that HE is weaving must look like when seen from a step back. Thanks for being family!

Blessings,
Valerie

Get An Early Shopper Pass to the Pendant Sale!

So, you all have been "window-shopping" Sarah's Treasure Box for the BIG sale on Tuesday that will be benefiting The Rippee Family in their Adoption ... right?!
OH! So many cool pendants every. time. I. check!

Well, I have the coolest DEAL to share with you that Sarah came up with. A little twist.
And here it is ...
You can shop early.
Beat the rush.
Before your favorites are gone.

How so?
On Sunday and Monday anyone that does a blog post* about the fundraiser, explaining who it is for, when and with a link to Sarah's Treasure Box can shop early with a code from ME!

To get the code, email me (Valerie) at almquist@fmtcs.com with a note and a link to where I can find it. When I check out your post (please be patient for my reply as I do sleep at night and will be at church Sunday morning until after 12 noon.) I'll then send you a special code to include at checkout that will give you access to this special twist of a deal!

It would also be GREAT if you would please include in your post to ask others to post on their blogs too--and then they can also have an early shopper invite too if they email me with a link to their post! We really want word of this fundraiser to reach as many people as possible as fast as possible.

The thing is ... we've set a really HIGH goal. I want to reach 200 pendant necklaces sold ... and Sarah wants me to reach it too, because not only does Sarah from Sarah's Treasure Box have a huge heart for orphans but also for adoptive families and those fundraising for them as she's an adoptive mom too and knows how long and hard that fundraising road can be! (So remember her heart and her shop in the future as well!)

Sarah is donating $5 from EVERY pendant necklace sold to The Rippee Family's Adoption of one of the sweetest little girl in the world.

Here's the Info:
The regular pendant sale is:
October 5th, starting at 12:00am through 11:59pm.
Sarah's Treasure Box
http://www.etsy.com/shop/sarahstreasurebox

PLEASE include a note to the seller at checkout with The Rippee's name so The Rippee's get credit for the sale. The Cool Twist of a Deal tacks Sunday and Monday onto the front of the Sale by using the special code ... making it a THREE DAY opportunity, Oct. 3, 4, 5th.)
Remember that in the previous post you will find a jpg you can print,
cut apart and hand out to your friends to invite and remind them too!

Please join us for this COOL sale ... remember ... One More pendant for One Less orphan.
One More For One Less!
*If you do not have a blog or would prefer to FaceBook instead or in addition to a blog post I would ask that you would send an ACTUAL personal message out to at least 25 people to qualify for the special code. (Not just post it to your page!) Please include an explanation of the fundraiser, the date and the link to Sarah's Treasure Box

Sarah's Treasure Box Pendant Sale!

I am continually amazed by the hearts that come forward in generosity for adopting families. Thank you again for each and everyone who donated a prize or made a donation to the Rippee's fundraiser. I'm still working on contacting some of the winners. If you have won something and have not emailed me your home address or contact email please do so ASAP!

And with that fundraiser behind us and lots of room moving forward, I am super-glad to announce a One Day Pendant Sale at http://www.etsy.com/shop/sarahstreasurebox!

Sarah and her husband operate an etsy shop called Sarah's Treasure Box. They are adoptive parents themselves and are blessing other adoptive families by "paying it forward" with the opportunity to have $5 from EVERY pendant that is sold on October 5th to go to The Rippee's Adoption Fund!

WOW!
OCTOBER 5th is The Rippee's Day!

And it's coming up fast. Can you help spread the word?
Could you blog about it?
Twitter about it?
Tell your neighbor?
Tell your friend?
Your Mom?
Your sister?
Your Adoption Chat group?

Just check out all the cool faith pendants and adoption ones too, more being added daily so check often as she restocks her store before the big Oct. 5th day!
The necklace pendants range from $7.99 to $16.99 (a wee bit more if you choose the custom design option listed.) It's a super price for a little bling! Especially bling-with-a-cause.

Here's what you do:
2• Choose some super sweet neck wear for your favorite people for Christmas, Birthday or Just Because.
3• When you check out on October 5th, MAKE SURE TO PUT A NOTE THAT IT IS FOR THE RIPPEE'S FUNDRAISER.

That's it! (The sale that donates to the Rippee's is only on Oct. 5th AND the note designating it for The Rippee's is what will get them the $5/pendant so don't forget that!)

Here are a few more ideas of who to buy a pendant for:
That Hard to Buy For School Teacher
A Sunday School Leader
Your Faithful Mail Carrier
Your Sweet Bloggy Friend
Your Mom
Your Sister-In-Law
Your girly-girls
Your Secret Sister
Your little girl's best-est friend
Your baby-sitter
Your Operation-Giggle child (if she's old enough)
... Yourself ...

My goal for this fundraiser? Two-Hundred.
Seriously ... this is so do-able if you help spread the word and won't you please?
Oh yes, and International shipping IS available!
And what a conversation starter when you wear your pendant and someone comments on it. You can say that it helped bring a special little girl to her Forever Family and who knows what seeds of faith you may plant!

P.S. Here is a page sized jpg of 6 cut-apart card you can hand out to your friends at church or throughout the week to remind people to donate by buying ON next Tuesday OCTOBER 5th!
12:00AM through 11:59PM
One Day.
It's Gonna Rock.
Blessings!
Valerie

Dad Has Returned!

As most of you know, Randy made a trip back to the states for his dad's surgery. I purposely didn't publish the dates he was gone as it isn't something you want to advertise publicly. He has now returned and we are all so joyful!! Dad was missed so very much by the girls and myself. Things weren't exactly easy around here while he was gone. 16 days was a terribly long time for all of us and especially these girls!! I was just getting to write up some of our experiences of dad's absence if you'd like to read all about it, you can go to the following website http://chinaloveministries.blogspot.com/ You can also read plenty of stories of what all goes on at the Forever Home!

Now, we will be working on getting our physicals completed and sent in to our caseworker. I talked with her this past week and she is still lacking a few pieces of paperwork that our agency is collecting due to the fact that we live outside the states. I do not yet know how much longer this will be before completion, but these sort of things are never fast enough for the family involved!! I'm sure that many of you, who have also adopted or are in the process, can relate to this quite well. Anyway, that's the latest on the adoption progress.

I just thought I'd also mention that Randy's dad's surgery went quite well and he is out of ICU into a regular room. He's supposed to be in the hospital for a total of about 5-6 days. Thank you so much for lifting up this situation!!
